A self catering holiday home a stone's throw away from the River Coquet in the beautiful Village of Rothbury. Built of natural sandstone by Lord Armstrong of the famous Cragside Estates in the 1870's, 'Neuk' is a North Northumbrian word for 'Nook' and it reflects the property perfectly. It is featured in the Village trail leaflet as 'state of the art' workers' housing of the time! Tucked away from the Village centre down a quiet private path River Neuk is deceptively spacious. The picturesque Village of Rothbury has excellent shops, restaurants and amenities and is located on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, providing an ideal base to explore rural Northumberland.

River Neuk is approached from the Market Place through a private pedestrian lane and then through a personal secure gate to the courtyard. A state of the art keyless entry system on the main door leads into the Entrance Hall. This simple system means you have the freedom to not worry about carrying keys with you during your stay. The courtyard area offers further secure storage in an outhouse, perfect to lock away bicycles and other equipment. In the entrance hall you will find coat hooks and towels provided for you to dry down your pets, should you wish to bring them with you. River Neuk has full gas central heating and is fully equipped to an extremely high standard throughout the property.

Why we love River Neuk

River Neuk is like a tardis! Built by Lord Armstrong (of the Cragside Estate) in the 1870's the Cottage is really spacious inside with a large Living/Dining Room. We absolutely fell in love with this Cottage by the river, bought it in early 2012 and guests have enjoyed it ever since.

The accommodation is all on one level so it's great for people who have difficulty with mobility.

The Entrance Hall has access to all of the rooms which include:
A comfortable and spacious Dining Lounge with a feature electric fire and surround. There is plenty of comfortable seating for four people with a stylish three seater settee and a two seater settee, oak laminate flooring and window to the front of the property. There is a 32" LCD television with Free Sat, DVD player, Hifi stereo system, Wii games console, a collection of books, games, and DVDs and free Wi-fi internet access for your entertainment. The dining area in the corner of the Lounge has a dining table and four chairs. A pine dresser in the kitchen extension area is complete with a full range of glasses and crockery items.

The attractive modern Kitchen is extremely well equipped and fitted with a range of wall and base units with wooden work surfaces. It has modern integrated appliances including an electric oven with gas hob and extractor hood, a microwave, fridge freezer, and dishwasher. Two velux roof lights give the kitchen a bright and airy feel. The Master Bedroom has a lovely double bed with matching bed side tables, a pine double wardrobe and large chest of drawers. There is plenty of storage space here for everything that you would like to bring with you for your holiday. The Second Bedroom has twin beds, a wardrobe and chest of drawers. All beds will be made up prior to your arrival and a full set of towels is provided per person staying.

The modern Bathroom has a panelled bath with electric shower over, wash hand basin, low level WC, tiled walls and flooring, vanity mirror, heated towel radiator and washing machine. River Neuk is suitable for guests with mobility problems, however there is a very small step into the flat and another into the hallway. There is plenty of free on street parking available within close proximity of River Neuk.

About the Location

Why we love

Rothbury is a wonderful, vibrant Village in the heart of the picturesque Coquet Valley. It's packed with amenities, great places to eat, shop, drink & even three art galleries!

Better than all that though it's the perfect gateway to the Northumberland National Park while still being a stone's throw from the coast & glorious beaches. The perfect holiday base really!

Known locally as the Capital of Coquetdale, the traditional Northumbrian Village of Rothbury is built on a hilllside in the sandstone Simonside Hills. It offers an excellent range of shops, with many art galleries, tea rooms, cafes and pubs. It makes a very convenient base for fishing and for walking into the Northumberland National Park and Simonside, as well as offering less strenuous riverside walks. Rothbury lies near the centre of rural Northumberland, 12 miles from Alnwick, 15 miles from Morpeth, 16 miles from unspoilt beaches and 29 miles from Newcastle upon Tyne. As such it has been a local centre since the 13th century and at various times had a castle, a market and magistrate's court. Nearby Cragside House and Gardens, home to Lord Armstrong is perhaps the most famous attraction in the area.

Rothbury serves as a hub for the outlying Villages and as such has a good choice of places to eat and drink. You might be surprised to hear that in such a small place not only are there a number of pubs and cafes, but there is also an Italian restaurant, an Indian restaurant, Chinese takeaway and chip shop! The numerous cafes are extremely popular with the walkers and cyclists.

Rothbury has an award-winning selection of local, independent shops in which you can buy practically anything from meat to shoes and wine. We have highlighted the best in independent retailers including crafts and gifts, food shops, supermarkets and clothing. There are also a number of art and crafts galleries that celebrate and sell original and local crafts.
